Requirements

Manager of Safety and Training - Georgetown University Facilities Management

The Manager of Safety and Training is responsible for safety, occupational health, and environmental matters. They provide expertise and technical capability in the areas of safety program implementation, hazardous waste management, hazardous materials, and environmental management; and serve as training coordinator for facilities management with a focus on safety and environmental training.

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision, the Manager of Safety and Training has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Provides advisory services for safety programs and projects.
  • Serves as the lead in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on various safety issues and work techniques as assigned.
  • Provides advice and assistance in the resolution of difficult program management and administrative operation problems and/or issues that include significant controversies or difficulties presenting barriers to program delivery and application.
  • Provides guidance, including written guidelines, to operating personnel on appropriate OSHA, EPA and other applicable regulations and requirements.
  • Performs analyses in the course of developing Job Hazards Analyses and develops corrective actions following job related injuries.
  • Develops and implements programs to reduce accident trends.
  • Develops alternative strategies and assesses trade-offs between safety concerns and economic issues related to implementing safety programs and policies.
  • Develops and manages a worksite inspection program, including safety and fire protection inspection.
  • Performs occupational health and safety inspections of all facilities and construction and renovation sites.
  • Inspects the buildings and equipment for safety deficiencies and promptly reports and corrects deficiencies, including trade shops, steam and chilled water utilities, equipment storage, scaffolding, and other work areas.
  • Provides training to facilities management employees, and coordinates training support from outside vendors and consultants as necessary to support safety and environmental program implementation.
  • Coordinates training support from outside vendors for topics related to trades skill enhancement for facilities management employees.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field - Master's degree preferred
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience as an Occupational Safety & Health Manager supporting a campus environment
  • General office computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access database programming


The Manager of Training and Safety is required to carry a smartphone and to respond to inquiries as needed, including off-hours if emergencies arise.
