Environmental
The Environmental Affairs team helps United take actions today to shape an environmentally sustainable future. It department oversees environmental compliance, liability, policy, strategy and sustainability.
Job overview and responsibilities
Implement corporate environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance at United airport and maintenance facility.
Assist United's operations in complying with company environmental management system, sustainability initiatives, as well as environmental requirement tracking to ensure compliance obligations are met
Serve as primary contact on facility sustainability programs, environmental compliance and maintain compliance records
Assist corporate environmental staff by providing station specific data and serve as the environmental site contact for airports and environmental regulators
Support other duties as assigned
Manage one or more environmental professionals that are responsible for environmental requirements and monitoring of the day-to-day compliance obligations at company’s airport and base maintenance facility
Act as liaison between all operating groups, regulatory agencies, and Envi...ronmental Affairs staff to maintain environmental compliance and implement sustainability initiatives
Monitor various projects or events that have potential environmental impacts at the facility
Assist with the development of your facility's environmental strategic plan, goals and key performance indicators
Communicate progress and opportunities, including the achievement of pre-determined milestones, associated with your strategic plan to station/facility leadership
Represent environmental affairs at operational meetings as required to further facilitate compliance and sustainability initiatives, and your environmental strategic plan
Facilitate and maintain required environmental inspections, including weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual written inspections as required by company’s or airport authority’s environmental procedures/policies, and ensure all identified deficiencies are corrected
Act as Point of Contact/First Responder for any spills or emergency situations that may arise at the facility
Assist with implementation of environmental training at facilities
Assist operations personnel with the implementation of environmental permit conditions, such as stormwater, wastewater, waste and air permits
Maintain facility environmental files, permits and other facility related environmental data
Prepare certain regulatory reports and submittals as applicable
Coordinate with Sr. Manager – Environmental Operations and Environmental Affair's Program Managers on various compliance and sustainability matters
Assist with the performance of audits, and timely implementation of audit finding corrective actions (including actions of other responsible parties at facility)
Serve as point of contact for regulatory agency inspections and assist agency inspectors with facility tours, file inspections, etc. to ensure compliance with all applicable internal and external environmental regulations such as, but not limited to, air, waste, stormwater, industrial water, hazardous materials and storage tanks
Establishes individual and facility environmental goals that align with departmental goals
Develop individual career development and training plans with leader
Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects
Be solution-oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continual improvement and innovation
Model integrity, possess self-awareness and foster an environment of accountability
Be accountable for providing transparent communication to your staff, Stakeholders and Leadership
Required
Bachelor's degree or comparable environmental work experience with general understanding of environmental regulations
At least 5 years of environmental experience
Knowledge of environmental regulations such as, but not limited to CWA, CAA, RCRA, SPCC, and TSCA
Strong verbal and written communication skills; Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills; Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred
Knowledge of environmental regulations related to the aviation industry and California environmental regulations
