Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Columbia University
Summary Description: The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the field of wildfire modeling. The successful candidate will work with a team led by Professors Park Williams and Pierre Gentine to develop a new wildfire model for the western United States using machine learning and dynamic vegetation modeling. The wildfire model will be used to disentangle the various drivers of increased western United States wildfire activity in recent decades, to make near-term forecasts of wildfire likelihood, and to make longer-term simulations to inform sustainable management and policy. The position will be located primarily at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY and space will also be available for work on the nearby main campus of Columbia University in Manhattan.
