Where the Chemistry Happens
Our mission in Analytics and Materials Characterization is to partner with our researchers to increase knowledge. We accomplish this by providing high quality, reliable data and solutions. The Materials Characterization team is dedicated to analytical problem-solving through a variety of characterization techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy and thermal analysis. We specialize in the analysis of catalysts, energy materials and zeolites/molecular sieves. The laboratory is high-volume and fast-paced environment, supporting the research of BASF scientists globally. Information produced is vital for BASF, helping researchers develop new and better materials, assisting manufacturing with quality control, supporting lawyers for intellectual property rights, and finding evidence as to the cause of product failures.
In this role, you will plan, coordinate, and execute research efforts in Microscopy in support of researchers at the Iselin, NJ Catalysis R&D facility. Therefore, we expect you will have a strong electron microscopy background with emphasis on SEM.
Any experience you may have in elemental identification and quantification of complex, heterogeneous materials using Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy or microscopy techniques such as TEM or EPMA, and/or knowledge of crystallography and diffraction techniques (EBSD, Electron Backscatter Diffraction), electron diffraction) will be advantageous in this role.

Formula for Success
* Leveraging your education and strong understanding of Electron Microscopy technologies, including extensive hands on experience in solving complex materials problems using SEM, you will provide technical leadership, develop new analytical capabilities, investigate strategies, and develop innovative methods to support knowledge and product development in the area of Electron Microscopy.
* Your strong organizational skills and hands-on experience in metallographic and sample preparation techniques such as potting/polishing, ultramicrotomy, ion polishing, or FIB will be a valued asset as you coordinate research projects in Electron Microscopy. This may include collaborative efforts with research partners at universities and national laboratories.
* Successfully engaging across the organization, you will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and manufacturing associates working on new-product development and manufacturing support.
