This position, located within our Technical Service and Development group, has primary responsibility for Product Stewardship, including regulatory compliance and maintaining Responsible Care Product Safety Code requirements, for Kuraray Genestar, EVAL EVOH, and Plantic products sold in the Americas.
This position also assists with internal audits and participates as an auditee in external audits. Audits may include food contact Good Manufacturing Practices, Responsible Care, ISO standards, and as a Product Safety and Conformity Officer support for International Automotive Task Force (IATF) standards. Being bilingual (English/Spanish) is a valuable factor in this position as it allows for support in both North America and Latin America (Spanish speaking countries) as it relates to Regulatory related matters and customer Product Stewardship needs.
Manage compliance projects related to EVAL Genestar, Plantic, and EVOH products in the US, Canada, and South America.
Assist the global Regulatory team in regulatory approvals for products where required, including US EPA TSCA, US FDA, Health Canada, Mercosur / ANVISA /CONAL, USP Class VI
Regulatory support for new product development
Responsible for working with KAI Senior Hazard Communications Specialist to ensure that all EVAL, Plantic, and Genestar product and raw materials SDSs are up-to-date and in KAI's 3E Protect database
Act as TSCA Coordinator to prepare regulatory notifications and submissions as required [e.g. TSCA Notice of Activity B (NOA-B), Chemical Data Reporting (CDR), and TSCA Fees Rule for EPA-initiated risk assessments] for imported, manufactured, or processed chemicals at EVAL, Genestar, and Plantic Business Unit.
Address Customer inquiries by developing Customer Documents of Compliance for commercial products
Communicate with members of the EVAL Global Regulatory Affairs team (RA members from Japan and Europe)
Collaborate with other KAI BU Product Stewards to ensure consistency across all businesses and share best practices
Prepare documentation and participate in TSCA internal company audits by the outside consultant (Audit scope: all sections of TSCA)
Kuraray Lead internal auditor for ISO9001 and IATF16949
Risk Management and Sustainability
Responsible for all Genestar, Plantic, and EVAL Product Stewardship activities
Lead Preparation and execution of Product Stewardship Assessments and Reviews (PSAs/PSRs) according to KAI Standards for Genestar, Plantic, EVAL EVOH reactor products, EVAL EVOH compounded products, EVAL non-EVOH products, and new products (e.g. MPDA)
Consult with TS&D on early new product developments to ensure that any potential risks (regulatory, exposure, perception) are identified early and managed, and sustainability is incorporated into the design of new processes and products
Work closely with TS&D, Marketing, and Sales to identify customer Product Stewardship and Sustainability needs, and assist with addressing these opportunities to add value to the businesses
Strive to have 100% composition knowledge of raw materials and products. Contact suppliers as needed to obtain composition information. Work with Legal and management to execute NDAs with suppliers to facilitate sharing confidential composition information for product stewardship purposes as needed.
BS in Engineering or other relevant STEM degrees + 5 years of petrochemical industry experience including at least 5 years' in a dedicated Product Stewardship role.
Fluent in both verbal and written English and Spanish
Some travel required (domestic and global meetings).
MS in Engineering or other relevant STEM degrees
Preferred experience in the polymer, packaging industry; Polymer food packaging design and development; and/or 4 yrs. of polymer research lab experience
Self-motivated and goal-oriented with a proven ability to consistently meet deadlines
Able to interact effectively with individuals of all levels and departments within and outside the organization; Work well independently or in teams
