The result is a safe and healthy environment with appropriate compliance, protection of assets and efficient execution of business processes. Position is responsible for managing a high level of complex Radiation Safety programs for the University and assumes regulatory compliance responsibilities. Develops implements and maintains multiple Radiation Safety programs, policies, and procedures for the nuclear reactor, radioactive materials, radiation-producing machines, lasers magnetic fields, radiofrequency fields, microwaves and other sources of non-ionizing radiation. Manager of Radiation Safety Division for budget, recruitment, staff scheduling and performance. Performs other duties as required. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Supervises EH&S professional and technical level staff engaged in monitoring and implementing environmental health and safety programs. May oversee multiple scientific and technical disciplines, integrating criteria to meet compliance requirements. May recommend changes to department policies and practices. May serve on system-wide technical committees to develop subject area improvements or compliance. Compensation Range: Commensurate with experience Department Website: http://ehs.uci.edu Required: 6 years of progressively more complex radiation safety experience. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Must qualify under 10 CFR 35,50 and they must have broad enough experience to take on a Broad Scope license, along with radiation safety aspects of the reactor, as well as the machine-produced radiation. Solid skills to organize, prioritize and complete projects within budget and time constraints. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of EH&S technical requirements, logistics, materials and operations, rules, regulations, laws, etc. Solid written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, including strong skills to interact successfully with a widely diverse population. Skills to effectively direct and supervise subordinate staff who are assigned duties in different programs; skills to effectively integrate several highly regulated subject and program areas. Solid skills to appropriately, efficiently and effectively respond to emergencies and critical situations. Knowledge of Radiation Shielding for Gamma, Beta, and Neutron radiation. Familiar with Radiation Safety Regulations of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and State Department of Public Health. Working knowledge of principles of radiation protection and federal and state regulatory requirements and standards regarding radiological safety, radiological emergency planning and response, and radiological environmental management. Knowledge and experience of Radiation Dosimetry for External and Internal Radiation Exposure. Knowledge and experience of Ionizing Radiation Protection principles and applications for Research Nuclear Reactors, Radioactive Materials and Radiation-producing Machines. Knowledge and experience of Human Uses of Radioactive Materials. Preferred: Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Health Physics, Radiological Health, Radiological Physics or equivalent. Eligibility to sit for Parts I and II of the certification examination as Certified Health Physicist (CHP).
