Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR) center is a collaborative institution within the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. As a Research Assistant 2 , you will be part of collaborative project teams focusing on advancing early cancer detection. Under general supervision, you will support CEDAR research by maintaining CEDAR laboratories, supplies, and assisting in research activities.You will use innovation and problem solving and may help to design experiments and procedures to achieve project objectives. Research Assistant 2sare assigned to program projects as needed. You will have a detailed knowledge of all aspects of laboratory research, and you will be comfortable working both individually and in highly collaborative teams. You willpossess good organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Under the guidance of a team leader, perform and be responsible for technical procedures and research projects such as ELISA, electrophoresis, mammalian cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, immunofluorescence, Western blotting, subcloning, etc.
• Work with researchers within CEDAR, across the Knight and OHSU to enable optimal use of various robotic driven research equipment that is located within the Knight Cancer Research Building. This position will: 1) be responsible for maintaining the shared equipment to a working standard, 2) facilitate and enable customized protocol development for individual researchers, and will 3) oversee the booking system and aid with billing for equipment usage. The current list of equipment includes two Hamilton liquid handling devices (STARlet and Star) and the In vivo imaging system (IVIS) for live animal imaging. This aspect of the position is expected to expand over time as new equipment is installed.
• Operate a variety of instruments and scientific equipment, including immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry etc.
• Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data; keep detailed and accurate laboratory records; tabulate data, perform calculations, prepare charts, graphs, reports and manuscripts. May use software applications to assemble, manipulate, format and/or perform statistical analysis of data.
• Special projects as assigned, may be responsible for one or more areas of support for all CEDAR

• Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research/No Experience OR - AA (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience
• Experience with tissue culture, molecular biology technics (cloning, qPCR), and basic biochemistry (western blot, protein pull-downs)
• An understanding of, and ideally previous experience with cancer biology.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
• Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
• Ability to learn new methods quickly, to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
• Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated ability to learn new and innovative processes quickly.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer programing languages to enable programming for robotic equipment

• 1-3 years, molecular and cellular biology or closely related discipline
• Experience in producing retroviruses or lentiviruses.
• Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
• Skills in next-generation sequencing
• Experience in flow cytometry and confocal microscopy
