The USC Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute is seeking a Visual/Graphic Design Professional to help design websites and data intensive web applications that are inviting, intuitive, interactive and able to present complex information with simplicity and elegance. You will work with a team of talented designers, developers and scientists to create design assets for websites and web applications. The ideal candidate will have worked in-house designing innovative solutions that incorporate a holistic approach and deliver extraordinary user experiences to a wide variety of users.
The USC Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute aims to enhance discovery through the application of imaging and information technologies in the study of the brain. The Institute is dedicated to excellence in data acquisition, analysis, stewardship and computational innovation for the purpose of biomedical research.
â¢ Minimum of two years of work experience as a visual designer, graphic designer, information architect, interaction designer, user experience designer, or similar role.
â¢ Solid understanding of the best practices and principles of visual design, user centered-design, interaction design, and responsive web design.
â¢ Ability to capture requirements via collaboration, team meetings, and domain research.
â¢ Ability to create information architecture diagrams, user experience workflow diagrams, wireframes, proof-of-concepts, and interactive prototypes.
â¢ Ability to communicate design approaches to different audiences including non-designers.
â¢ Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
â¢ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
â¢ Online portfolio required.
â¢ Experience with transitions, animation, motion design and dynamic interaction a plus.
â¢ Experience designing complex data visualization UIs a plus.
â¢ Degree in interaction design, information architecture, or equivalent preferred but not required.
â¢ Employ a holistic, strategic and creative approach to create user-centric experiences that support the behaviors, needs and goals of our users as determined through data-driven research and usability testing.
â¢ Establish the look and feel for websites and interfaces for desktop and mobile that incorporate appropriate brand guidelines.
â¢ Brainstorm, storyboard, wireframe and prototype to support a variety of experiences.
â¢ Perform in-depth analysis of how our users think and behave in pursuing their goals.
â¢ Present drafts to communicate processes and iterate based on feedback to meet user needs.
â¢ Prepare design assets for development and collaborate with developers to ensure successful implementation.
â¢ Collaborate with management, scientists, designers and developers to ensure usersâ needs are met and expectations exceeded.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degreeMinimum Experience: 2 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Understanding of design issues, including browser usability and cross-platform compatibility. Solid foundation in studio design, typography, printing and layout. Work experience as a visual/graphic designer covering all aspects of artwork preparation, printing, and website creation. Requires thorough knowledge of typography, printing processes, selection of paper or other printing surfaces, and paper folding, binding and finishing. Knowledge of desktop publishing systems and specialized equipment related to periodical production.
