We have an exciting new opportunity in a growing area of BASF. Join the Regulation Affairs team for Seeds & Traits as the Global Head of IRM. This position will lead the formulation and implementation of the BASF global insect resistance management (IRM) strategy for the Seeds Business including all BASF crops possessing insect-resistance (IR) traits, participate in shaping BASF policy in IRM of IR crops, ensure harmonized scientific and regulatory approaches to IRM within BASF and across the Seed Industry, anticipate and mitigate emerging resistance to IR traits, and provide effective operational implementation of IRM to achieve BASF product durability goals, therein upholding BASF's commitments to product stewardship and sustainability.
Formula for Success: You Will...
Serve as global point person responsible for formulation and implementation of BASF IRM Policy and strategy.
Through in-depth understanding of the biological foundations and regulatory antecedents of current global IRM programs, provide Management with needed structure for BASF IRM policy and related programs. Key methods/means include working with relevant BASF governance entities and functions, including regional business groups and serving as the communication bridge with Industry groups seeking alignment on country specific IRM policies and plans.
Maintain and modify/improve key BASF IRM policy documents as needed.
Fulfill operational implementation of country specific IRM requirements and IRM Directive.
Work with Regional IRM managers to insure timely fulfilment of both country specific IRM requirements as well as those of the BASF IRM Directive. For new products containing IRM traits, this includes aligning with local regulators and key academic influencers, drafting risk assessments, writing IRM plans and formulating resistance monitoring methodologies.

Provide scientific leadership in IRM within BASF, in Industry associations working for alignment of scientifically robust and practical IRM plans, and with relevant academic and regulatory influencers and groups.
Serve as recognized expert on IRM at BASF. Provide seminars, web-based and classroom trainings in IRM at BASF. Provide materials for IRM training of external stakeholders. Guide IRM Team participation in relevant global and country based IRM committees and activities. Uphold the high standard of product stewardship at BASF. Leverage established relationships and networks within Industry, academic and regulatory sectors to promote excellence in IRM.
Coordinate Industry activity and agreement on country specific IRM strategies. Enhanced effectiveness and compliance with IRM Plans. Improved product durability. Improved product stewardship and sustainability. Sustained BASF reputation.
Anticipate and respond to emerging resistance and related regulatory issues.
Coordinate Industry action(s) through ABSTC/IRAC/CLI IRM committees may include strategic planning, communication with regulators and formulation of solutions. Coordination of external messaging with BASF Market Acceptance.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Master's or Ph.D. degree in entomology or other relevant scientific discipline(s) directly applicable to insect resistance management.
15-20 years of diverse experience pertinent to IRM in the Seed Business.
Recognized global leader in insect resistance management.
Broad understanding of the diverse areas of biology directly relevant to durability of Insect Resistant crops. Including:
o Development of Bt crop-use strategies in multi-cropping systems,
o Pyramiding of Bt traits and stacking with other traits,
o Operational experience with resistance and baselines susceptibility monitoring,
o Resistance modeling and management strategies,
o Implementation of IRM Plans,
o Working with project teams in business context.
Excellent understanding of regulatory affairs and regulatory policy of seeds and traits.
Demonstrated ability to resolve complicated pest management problems and related bio-political regulatory issues.
Strong leadership skills; able to unite diverse groups around a common task and strategy.
Very strong organization, planning and budget tracking abilities; able to handle highly complex projects with long timelines. E xcellent verbal and writing communication skills; able to collaborate with and communicate complex technical information and regulatory requirements with all levels of management, project teams and governmental agencies.
Expertise with information management technology (archiving databases, document editing software, statistical manipulation of data).
Demonstrated networking ability and negotiation skills; able to work effectively within BASF and government systems.
Flexibility, adaptability, diplomacy, and ability to overcome complexity.

Willingness to travel extensively as needed-internationally and domestically
