The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of New Haven invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in chemical engineering beginning August 2020. The Department consists of fourteen full-time faculty (ten chemists and four chemical engineers). The B.S. program in chemical engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to: teach chemical engineering courses in process analysis/control and transport operations, and first-year engineering courses as needed; develop a research program that engages students, publish in respected journals, and seek external grant funding; and actively participate in institutional and professional service. Supplemental responsibilities include coordination of the BS chemical engineering program, advising students, coordination of all ABET-related activities, and leading the launch of an MS program in chemical engineering. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests align with college-wide research initiatives in renewable energy, sustainability, or education research.
An earned doctorate in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field and an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering
Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovation, active-learning and student engagement, with 3-7 years of teaching experience, including in the area of process controls
Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills – in the classroom, with colleagues, in written work, in listening
Experience with course and program development, including navigating a university curriculum approval process
Administrative experience that demonstrates entrepreneurial thinking, collaborative leadership and the potential to effectively lead a program or department
Experience in course and program assessment and with the ABET accreditation process
Record of scholarly accomplishments consistent with the desired rank, including
successful grant funding and notable publications
Demonstrated ability to forge relationships with industrial partners to benefit students;
industrial experience will be considered favorably
Evidence of effective student recruitment strategies
