Cambrex High Point (www.cambrex.com), located in High Point, NC, 27265, is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, results-oriented individual to join our Chemical Development team of dedicated professionals focused on innovation, customer service and quality. We are currently accepting resumes for the position of R&D Engineering Scientist.
This entry level role will assist more experienced chemical engineering and chemistry staff with ongoing activities related to research and development, organic synthesis, chemical engineering, and pilot plant work. Additionally, this scientist will be responsible for maintenance of laboratory equipment, monitoring ongoing experiments, completing critical documentation, and setup/teardown/cleaning of laboratory equipment. The candidate will be trained in process-related troubleshooting and critical problem solving, and therefore the position requires basic understanding of the scientific method and good documentation practices.
Assist with setup, monitoring, documentation, and cleaning related to engineering R&D experiments.
Planning and execution of basic experimental design
Collaboration with process development chemists and analytical chemists to develop safer and more robust processes for laboratory and plant production.
Expected to work closely with partner teams, including chemistry, analytical, and manufacturing operations to coordinate project related equipment and activities.
Working with process engineers and chemists in the development of key process improvements and strategies leading to improved yield, throughput, purity, increased efficiency, capacity enhancement, and reduced cost.
A B.S. degree in chemical engineering or chemistry is required, at a minimum. Three to five years of experience in the pharmaceutical or comparable chemical industry is preferred.
Basic understanding of organic chemistry, especially as applicable to process chemistry. Excellent verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a diverse team environment are essential. Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word / EXCEL / PowerPoint) is expected. Experience with engineering software and process modeling is preferred.
