We are seeking an Analytical Chemist/Lab Manager to work in the Dispersions & Pigments (ED) business unit as part of our Hillsboro, OR company site.
Responsible for the management and conduction of all the lab and sample production related activities. The Hillsboro site is dedicated to the manufacturing and delivery of R & D samples to and carrying out application development lab activities for existing and potential customers.

Formula for Success
Leveraging your PhD level degree in Chemistry Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering in addition to research experience in colloidal chemistry and dispersions and/or surface chemistry.
Use your effective communication to facilitate discussions with internal personnel and customers and additionally communicate details and precise technical requirements, procedures and results in oral and/or written form. Utilize your experience in direction, coordinating and managing team activities to accomplish highly technical tasks. Have the ability to operate in an environment of frequently changing priorities and use your experience in logistics and lab operations.
You will plan and supervise all lab activities to prepare customer samples and ensure the quality and consistency of the samples/ products. Preparing monthly cost report and control external and internal expenses and ensure forecast and usage of supplies and raw materials are balanced between demand and budget. Monitoring, reviewing and implementing details and accurate documentation process for all product development and analytical activities and ensure the proper execution of SOP's. Additionally, you will ensure inventory of raw materials at the site are up to date and comply the occupancy B certification requirements as well as ensuring the shipping & receiving of raw materials, supplies and finished samples.
Uses your learned skillsets and participate in technical and organizational level in projects with local customers in global product development teams as well as joining technical meeting with customers and project partners. Maintain your part of the global development team for advanced materials customer projects specifically in post chemical mechanical polishing and formulated cleans applications and secure information exchange with other BASF sites in USA and global labs.
You will ensure full implementation of the Safety & Preventive Maintenance Programs as well as maintaining a safe and reliable site. Enforce all safety rules and regulations in addition to leading the completion of documents related to accident investigations for injuries and near misses & spills. Responsible for ensuring the Security functions complies all local & federal laws and corporate initiatives as well as directing activities in event of fires, explosion, and other emergencies in the complex.
Responsible for instructing and training new technicians/engineers and keeping the site up to date of Management of Change and SOP revisions and required regulatory trainings. Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all analytical and lab equipment and work with vendors to repair, troubleshoot, and upgrade when required. Conduct investigations for the cause of any analytical excursions and irregularities. Responsible for ensuring the Security functions complies all local & federal laws and corporate initiatives as well as directing activities in event of fires, explosion, and other emergencies in the complex. Direct observance of safe practice and good housekeeping, taking necessary corrective steps and instructing personnel as required.
